The Ordinance provides safeguards by requiring
such a that Chinese persons desiring to contract marriage shall
satisfy the Registrar General they are resident here, that
they have already been, or are about to be, married ady
-ing to the rites and customs of China and that neither party has an undivorced husband or wife living other than the party to the proposed marriage under the Ordinance.
The new section 38 re-enacts the repealed section
37 of the Marriage Ordinance 1875 ( No. 7 of 1875 ) sub-
-ject to the reservation imposed by the new section 37.
